When the Chargers lose, nobody is really surprised anymore, even though they have the personnel to be a really good team. It's just that their choking of games week after week has been a normality for years now. We all thought this would change after seeing Justin Herbert in his rookie year. The dude has insane talent and can lead the clutch drives that you need when it comes down to it. But alas, the Chargers fooled us all with Brandon Staley, making us think that this coaching change was going to turn over a new leaf. What is with this theme of hiring defensive coaches to take over a team with a new quarterback? The only place this is working is in Houston, and that's because CJ Stroud has immense talent and Demeco Ryans probably realized quick that he needed to build around his star QB and help said QB by making the best defense he can to ease some pressure. Brandon Staley on the other hand, just decides to be insulted that we question his genius and double down that his consistently failing schemes are the way to go. Yeah bud, that's working out great for you.
The ego of Brandon Staley (and in a lot of other coaches too I'll admit) is going to be his downfall. A great coach is not just a guy who knows football really well and has this amazing plan in their mind of the perfect football team. A great coach knows the game well and more importantly knows how to capitalize on player strengths and minimize player weaknesses in order to produce the best performance possible. So yeah, Staley can keep moaning and bitching to us about how his way of things is the right way and how it's going to work EVENTUALLY, but in life you learn a pretty important lesson that applies perfectly here: Actions speak louder than words.
