Well, now I'm getting pretty tired of this shit. Everything was set up perfectly last night in regard to a good football game. Of course, that didn't even last until halftime. Mark Andrews injured his ankle getting tackled (and is now done for the season), Lamar got hurt but stayed in, and Joe Burrow tore a ligament in his wrist (and is also done for the season). Thursday Night Football takes no prisoners and we saw that in full effect last night. The worst part of it is that we actually had expectations for a quality game. What a bunch of dumbasses we are.
Despite injuries, we still got a little bit to take away from this game. For the Ravens, we know kind of what we already: They are a good fucking football team. The offense was still scoring even without Lamar running around. The defense is still scary as hell. Justin Tucker will always be Justin Tucker. They definitely are the most complete team in the NFL right now. What surprised me the most was the receivers of Baltimore. They got open, made catches, and had a ton of YAC. They figured it out like we all probably knew they would, and now it's gonna be really shitty if you're facing the Ravens for the rest of the season, I don't see a Browns-like game happening again. It took them all of four days to get their swagger back.
The Bengals on the other hand, have now regressed exponentially. Yes, this is solely due to Burrow now being out for the season. When you are in too much pain to even throw a football as an NFL quarterback, that is a bad thing (no shit Sherlock). Browning didn't do horrible stepping in, but he just isn't Joe. With this offense coming to a screeching halt, a lot of the pressure has turned to the defense, who were simply not doing enough to stay competitive last night. Trey Hendrickson is a fucking dawg, but the secondary was not keeping up with Baltimore's receivers. We're probably gonna be seeing a lot of Joe Mixon for the rest of the season, which isn't a bad thing because he is becoming the offensive workhorse as of late. Joe Mixon will not be enough to get these guys wins though, and the playoffs might be on hold until next year.
Next week we have the Black Friday Game with Dolphins vs Jets. I have no clue how this will go, maybe changing the night football is played will turn the bad juju around? Then again, it's going to be Zach Wilson playing against Miami... Maybe we'll just get to see the Dolphins hang 70 again.
