Justin Fields Is Still The Guy: Matt Eberflus Is Not

Secret's out everybody! The Bears suck again. Off to a horrendous 0-4 start, they've looked like they couldn't give a fuck less about football. Well, until Sunday afternoon. The game was actually going pretty well for them for three quarters. Justin Fields was showing why he was drafted so high in the first place, showing off his ability to make things happen and drive his offense down the field. Then the end of the game happened. Damn it Bears, why must you always show us that you hate yourselves more than anyone else hates you week after week. Now football fans, owners, reporters, and super-professional analysts (such as myself) must all ask ourselves this question: Who's fault is this? I've noticed everyone immediately pointing right at Justin Fields. "He's not the guy at all." "The Bears wasted another pick on a QB that didn't perform" "Tank for Caleb Williams it is" I don't think that's the case. I think, this all falls completely on Matt Eberflus (Ryan Poles I guess can also take some heat, but that's two problems at once, my brain cannot handle that).

Matt Eberflus was hired from the Colts a couple years back, and I am a Colts fan so I've seen his work before. Defensively, the guy can definitely lead a group. He made the Colts defense look pretty solid for a number of years. Problem is though, that's about it. Not to mention, the Bears absolutely did not need a defensive man for the head coaching job. They drafted Justin Fields, their quarterback of the future, fresh off of ruining their previous "franchise" Mitch Trubisky (drafted before Mahomes, haha). Did anyone seriously think that the best person to develop Fields and integrate him into the league was the Defensive Coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts?

When Eberflus is focusing solely on defense, he does a good job. To him, that is his first-born baby. Then, he separated (left) from his wife (the Colts) and took on some step-children in his new relationship (the Bears). Although that analogy was definitely ass, the point remains. He is acting as if he did not realize the responsibility of stepping into a new environment would be huge, and now has bitten off more than he can chew. He's so overwhelmed with figuring out how to run an offense, that he's completely neglected his bread and butter of running a defense. Due to that, now they both suck. Bad coaching= bad team, regardless of talent level.

Who's next then? Everyone knows the answer to that hopefully. Ol' Jimmy Harbaugh! He was hot on the market last offseason, without even announcing whether he's staying or leaving Michigan. After this year though, the Bears should just throw every dollar they can spare so they can have somebody tell Justin Fields that he needs to throw the ball BEFORE the defense breaks through. Taking FIVE FUCKING SECONDS to throw is actually not a good quarterback trait it turns out.

That is wishful thinking though, as we all have learned the lesson over and over that the Bears love shooting themselves in the foot. I'm just trying to advocate for my dad, who has suffered long enough (and Big Cat so he'll like me). If we know anything for sure, it's that the Bears are going to do exactly the opposite of what we wanted. So, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, your Chicago Bears head coach for the 2024 season:

It's just written in the stars.

  1. Hoping the trigger is pulled sooner than later, I was optimistic that the Bears would break the 14-game losing streak. The decision-making of Everloss is demoralizing. Kick the damm field goal on 4th. I guess they could be setting themselves up for another top-draft pick. Wtf? I would rather have some WINS
