Shitty narratives and the game of "he said she said" really can ruin the reputation of a quarterback it seems. It happened to Baker when he left Cleveland, and it's happened to Kyler Murray with the whole Kliff Kingsbury debacle. Everyone started to count him out because his team was underperforming and because of the behind the scenes drama, something to do with Call of Duty and November. It was actually pretty fuckin funny to follow, because of how unbelievable it was and how outlandish it all seemed. It was legitimately like watching a parent disciplining their child. Kyler dead-ass got grounded. Then he tore his ACL, Kliff Kingsbury got fired, Jon Gannon got hired, and now we're six games into the season. As of today, Kyler Murray has returned to practice. And I'm ready to see him again.
If you haven't watched much of Kyler, I highly recommend you do, it is electric. The dude is a human video game and constantly makes what is seemingly impossible happen. That's the reason why the expectations for the Cardinals were so high, because everyone believed Kyler was capable to handle them. The thing was that Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler just straight up did not mix, and also Kyler got in his feelings a lot which caused constant tension on the team. I think that changes with Gannon at the helm.
Gannon was the defensive coordinator for the Eagles, and he had his crew absolutely dominating teams. When he joined Arizona as the head coach, he definitely looked corny as fuck. Then the season began, and his words started to carry some weight. The Cardinals are by no means a top team, but they're aggressive as all hell and have made each team they've faced earn their wins. This is the kind of football I love the most. Just angry dudes smacking into each other trying to commit war crimes. It's why I love the Lions and Dan Campbell so much. Players who are focused on playing football and killing their opponents makes for much higher quality games on TV. From what I've seen that's what Gannon is all about, and I think Kyler will buy in.
So how do we think the Cardinals are going to do now? Is Kyler going to lead them to this amazing comeback? Or will they just ease him back into the game and focus on getting some more depth to the roster? I just hope the Cardinals and the people of Arizona realize what they have, and get excited for this team and the new culture they could be building.
