Last night's game was... alright? I'm not 100% sure how I feel about it yet to be honest. The Bills definitely looked better than they have, but they're still not the Bills we're used to. The Bucs looked really good on defense, and really really sad on offense. I'm not blaming the players on this one though, I'm blaming Todd Bowles.
Why the fuck did the Bucs offensive drive in the fourth quarter last six fucking minutes? Did they not understand what was going on? Do they not know how to count? Every single second of that drive had me so confused. They were just chilling, walking down the field so casually, with no care in the world. If I was the head coach, I would be losing my shit. YOU ARE DOWN BY TWO TOUCHDOWNS AGAINST THE BILLS. What other way do I need to convince the offense to hurry up? Sure, I trust the defense to do well, but I still would want a cushion in case I need it. Nope, let's just take as long as fucking possible, still score, and then have roughly three minutes to get the ball back and score again. Fucking ridiculous.
The Bucs still had an attempt to win this game too. They got the two point conversion on their previous drive and then had very little, but still some time to try a hail mary to the end zone. Baker did throw the hail mary, and it was honestly perfect, right in the endzone out of the way of defenders. Then it did not get caught. Chris Godwin was trying to box out defenders for Mike Evans, and Mike Evans was busy getting wrestled by three defenders. People keep saying penalties just don't really get called on hail marys, but why not? Regardless of the play, if you clearly obstruct someone from even having a chance to catch the ball you should be penalized objectively. Just because it's some crazy last ditch effort or it hasn't been known to get penalized before doesn't mean you just don't ever do it. If you give an inch, they take a mile. That should've been pass interference, and an untimed down at the one should've been played, the Bills put themselves in that position.
Shit man, I really have kind of been hating on the Bills lately. Let me clarify: I do not hate the Bills. I actually like the Bills, I just like them a lot better when they're playing like the juggernaut they actually are. When people still give them top tier treatment even though they're playing like shit, it irks me. If you're sucking, you need to know. This is the case for the Bills. They have by no means whatsoever been playing like a top 10 team, yet too many people still give them the benefit of the doubt. I want Buffalo to succeed, they have great guys on the roster and the Bills Mafia is fucking awesome. I just want them to actually deserve it when they do. The success will be that much more satisfying when it happens.
Overall, Thursday Night Football continues to just be meh every single week. I'll be the bad guy on this too, it's time for Al Michaels to hang it up. I don't think he gives a fuck about announcing football anymore, and TNF is the one who killed that for him. Let's just get someone to join Kirk that doesn't absolutely hate his job. He's not a professor with tenure, you can totally just replace him now that he's declined so much. A couple of years ago, absolutely not, but now yes for sure.
It'll be interesting to see where each of these teams go now. The Bills still need to find their identity to return to their true form. The Bucs need to kick Todd Bowles out of the entire state at this point, he is suffocating this team. If either of this team wants to win their respective division, they need to figure some shit out quick, because time is running out.
