TNF Talk Week 9: Steelers Survive, Titans Have a Brighter Future

Last night was not a bad game to watch at all. A decent matchup between decent teams that came down to the wire. I want to emphasize the word decent when describing these teams because the Steelers being 5-3 now does not make them a good or great team by any means. Let us not forget a couple years back when the Steelers were 11-0 and then proceeded to lose 5 of their last 6 and get kicked out by the Browns in the first round of the playoffs. This team definitely has grit, as they always will, but they are decent until they actually start beating teams in a much larger margin. The Titans everyone already kind of knew what was going on, but there's a new hope for the offense.

Will Levis has looked pretty solid in his first two career starts. Yes, he did not throw for a touchdown last night, but he still looks like the gunslinger that the Titans need to get the offense rolling. He was moving the ball down the field, making crazy throws that surprisingly were working for the most part. The plan of "Hopkins is down there somewhere" is continually working. The defense for the Titans was ok last night, but being ok against the Steelers offense is not the best look. Warren and Harris had a little too much success in the run game last night, and that will not go well for Tennessee against an actual good team. Regardless, there is light at the end of the tunnel with Will Levis' performance so far and the future could be bright.

The Steelers did what they could essentially to win last night. The offense was like 5% more efficient than usual, mostly being carried by the rush the whole game. The defense was the hero of the night, with coverage and pressure being really good throughout the night and stopping the Titans from crushing them. TJ Watt is a monster, but what's new? Joey Porter Jr. did well against D-Hop, despite the flags he was getting all night. Highsmith had a solid game too, getting Levis down twice and making tackles all night. This defense may be able to save some games, but once the Steelers face teams that are well-rounded, it's not going to go their way. Matt Canada needs to go, this whole "we trust Matt to do a good job" shit needs to die. Honestly that needs to die across the league. Head coaches are a different story, but coordinator need to wield results or at least a glimmer of something for the side of the ball they control. AI honestly might be able to scheme better that Canada at this point, that's how much of a screeching halt he has put this offense on.

If I'm a betting man, I'm not looking for either of these teams to be in the playoffs at the end of the year. Although I will say, each team is only a couple of pieces away from being hard competitors. They both play hard, and don't give up easily at all. It definitely helps when Mike Vrabel and Mike Tomlin are your head coaches.
